The minimum preparation file
Complete itinerary
Include connections, separate tickets, dates, transit countries and possible changes because territorial scope may matter.
People and activities
Check who is insured and in which capacity. Work, sport, rental vehicles and long stays may be subject to specific clauses.
Bookings and terms
Keep confirmations, supplier cancellation terms and payment methods. A recoverable amount is not automatically an insured loss.
Healthcare and assistance
Identify health, accident, the relevant card, supplementary cover and authorisation process without entering medical data here.
Pre-departure check
These checks produce questions; they do not confirm cover.
Check authority information
Read FDFA advice, entry rules and official destination health information, and check again shortly before leaving.
Compare policy documents
Place the policy, general terms and special terms side by side to find definitions, exclusions and duties.
Test scenarios
Ask what happens if a traveller becomes ill, transport is cancelled, baggage is missing or assistance must organise a service.
Make information accessible
Keep offline copies and share essential contacts. Travel Admin remains a public tool separate from insurance.
Do not assume
- Cover bought after an event is known does not automatically insure that event.
- A payment card or health insurer may provide partial protection whose scope must be checked separately.
- Travel Admin voluntarily supports travel and crisis information but creates no insurance entitlement.
Checked Swiss federal sources
Each source language is stated. The FDFA, FOPH and FOCA publish authority information; Fedlex contains federal law. The detailed FOCA baggage source falls back to French because no equivalent English detail page was available when checked. The English Fedlex text is a reference translation; the German, French and Italian legal texts and the applicable policy control.
