Contractual legal protection

Start with future needs and return to the contract before spending money or allowing any deadline to expire.

Contractual legal protection

People, legal fields and territory

Identify who is insured, which areas of law are named and where the policy applies. Commercial categories do not create a universal statutory package.

Event and timing

Locate the insured-event definition, relevant date, any waiting period and rules for known facts. Only the policy and terms can establish those boundaries.

Costs and representation

Separate advice, representation, experts, court costs, party costs, limits, deductible and prior approval. Representative choice applies in specific legal circumstances, not without limits.

Refusal and available routes

The insurer, Ombudsman, FINMA and courts have different functions. None should be described as guaranteeing the outcome.

Contractual legal protection

Start with future needs and return to the contract before spending money or allowing any deadline to expire.

  1. Classify needs without sensitive details

Choose private, traffic or combined and note people and territories without naming an opponent or recounting the dispute.

  2. Compare clauses

Place event, waiting period, exclusions, limits, deductible, representation, experts and reporting duties side by side.

  3. Ask for a written position

For an existing policy or matter, ask which clause applies and what documents or approval are required before costs are incurred.

  4. Protect every deadline

Keep dated documents and replies. A comparison request, complaint, mediation request or FINMA report does not automatically stop a statutory, court or contractual deadline.

  • This general information is not legal advice or confirmation of insurance coverage.
  • Legal protection does not automatically cover every dispute, cost, territory or person.
  • FINMA supervision or registration is not a product endorsement and does not decide a private dispute.
  • The applicable policy and terms prevail over every example on this page.

Use a closed comparison journey; its result is not a claim or coverage decision.

Decide with visible rules

Read the guides, explore regional pages or prepare a comparison request separately from the calculation.

FINMA and Ombudsman guidance is linked in English. The consolidated federal statutes are linked to the official French text; no authoritative English legal translation is asserted here. The law, policy, terms and competent decisions prevail. The Ombudsman is an independent foundation, not a regulator or court.
