Private or traffic protection: compare without assuming cover

The labels help organise a need but do not define identical benefits across insurers. Each scenario remains a policy question, not a coverage promise.

Private or traffic protection: compare without assuming cover

Two areas to document

Private life

Housing, employment, consumer, neighbour, family or digital issues may reveal a need; listing them does not mean a policy includes them.

Traffic and mobility

Drivers, vehicles, purchase, repair, accident or licence issues must match the people, vehicles and territories named in the contract.

Combination and overlap

Compare combined products with protection already linked to motor, home, association or other contracts without adding benefits automatically.

Build a verifiable needs map

The map identifies questions; it does not replace the terms or an insurer’s assessment of a particular event.

  1. List the people

Record the policyholder, partner, children and other household members, then check the contractual definition.

  2. List the situations

Classify private and mobility needs and relevant vehicles or activities without presenting them as insured.

  3. Test limits and overlap

Compare territory, date, limit, deductible, exclusions, prior approval and existing protection.

  4. Protect every deadline

Keep dated documents and replies. A comparison request, complaint, mediation request or FINMA report does not automatically stop a statutory, court or contractual deadline.

Keep the category boundaries

  • These categories are comparison questions, not standard market guarantees.
  • Buying insurance after a dispute arises does not guarantee retrospective cover.
  • Traffic legal protection does not follow merely from owning a vehicle or motor policy.
  • The policy and terms prevail over any product label.

FINMA and Ombudsman guidance is linked in English. The consolidated federal statutes are linked to the official French text; no authoritative English legal translation is asserted here. The law, policy, terms and competent decisions prevail. The Ombudsman is an independent foundation, not a regulator or court.
