After an insured event
Prepare a claim file: travel incident
Abroad, local authorities and services remain the first contacts for safety and emergencies. Consular assistance and insurance play different roles; this checklist guarantees no benefit.
Careful immediate steps
- In danger, illness, accident or theft, contact the appropriate local services first and follow their directions.
- Then contact the assistance service named in the policy and the travel provider, asking for references and instructions.
- Keep original confirmations, reports and receipts. For theft, follow local requirements without inventing or completing facts.
Facts to preserve
- Dates, locations, itinerary and people involved by category
- Nature of the incident as established by authorities or providers
- Contacts with police, healthcare, carrier, assistance and representation
- Expenses, refunds and benefits already received
Check in the policy
- Cancellation, interruption and reasons actually covered
- Treatment, rescue, repatriation and assistance provided for
- Baggage, limits, excluded items and deductible
- Territory, travel advisories, known events and coordination with other insurance
Important limitation
In an emergency use local services: the FDFA is neither a rescue service nor an insurer. Never falsify a report or receipt. Cover and reimbursement depend on the policy, event and verified records.
